Mad Men: The smoking pitch

During the class of Thinking Skills, we watched a scene of the TV serie Mad Men. In this scene we could see how the tobacco company called "Lucky Strike" is looking for a way of selling its product by presenting an advertising that convince people that tobacco isn't harmful. Afteer watching the scene we had to answer some questions.

1)Identify some of th vested iterests in this scene.How do these work?

2)Why is Peter's idea rejected and Don's idea accepted?

3)Find an old tabbaco advertising picture and analyse it in terms of vested interests and distortion of the truth.

1)We can see vested interest,when they tried to sell their products.this work by make a perfect advertising,in which they lie,showing ¨how good¨ cigarettes are and showing young and beutiful people smoking and being happy and relate the cigarette with healthy habits,and these make people think that tabacco does not kill.

2)Peter's idea is rejected because in his slogan he tried to show that if you smoke or not,you would die anyway, and it is rejected because they didn't want an advertising associateing cigarettes with death.Don's idea is accepted because in his advertising didn't mention death,wich ends with many tabbaco companies.Apart from that in his advertising he look the way to present the product different from the same product of a different companie and countries.

In this advertisement we can clearly see that the company is lying so as to sell the product as much as they can. The phrase in the advertising is fake because smoking cause a lot of health problems such as cancer and many times leads to death.What's more, they show a doctor smoking, so peolple directly relate it with good health and that it doesn't kills you.

Helping students with oral presentations

Introduction;

The principal aims of this report are to provide solutions for some of the student's problems with their oral presentations.The final section makes recommendations as to how the following problems could be solved.

Speaking problematics:

Students generaly have problems with their fluency,because many times,They can not say a word after another,getting stuck and unable to advance.Another problem they have is pronunciation,students lack the knowledge of phonetics,that's why,they guess the sound of the words,and finish saying how they think it is pronunced.

Inconveniences in the premises;

One of the main problems students have is the lack of internet connection,many times they delivered their presentations with a prezi or with a presentation that requires Internet connection and when they don't have wi-fi,they can not download it and show it.Another problem is the lack of resources,many times students didn't have a screen or speakers to show their presentation to the rest and finish delivering their speech without anything to show such as a video,because they do not have how to show it.

Sources;

A very common problem that students have is the selection of information and material because they take the information from sources that are too  basic or use too vogue inappropriate vocabulary and not academic language.Apart from that they take the information from sources that are not academic,if not that they take it from places such as ¨yahoo answers¨, because it is very short and easy to understand,because of the basic vocabulary employed.

Solutions:

Clearly,many students have problems with oral presentation.However,there are many solutions,to end with these problems.I will make the following recommendations;

• Students should be self-confident and the school should help and persuade them to be like this.Apart from that students should study phonetics and school should provide a class of phonetics to help students.

• Students could download the presentation at ther house and bring it in a pendrive or maybe make posters.Apart from that the school could improve the premises.

• Students may look for key terms so as to filter information and provide new reliable sources.

To conclude,the school and students could make things to solve this problem.

Allons à L´Alliance

La visite à l'alliance française était très jolie. Les gens étaient très gentils et ce qu’ils sont dits était compréhensible.
J'ai vraiment aimé la visite et J'ai appris beaucoup de choses que je ne connaissais pas.
Ce qui m´a plu le plus c´était la bibliothèque, elle est très grande!

Asesinato a Distancia

Cuando te enamoras, sentís que el mundo empieza y termina con esa persona. Sos ciego, y todo es por amor. Pero cuando el amor se convierte en dolor, en traición, todo cambia para siempre. Esta es mi historia, la historia de una chica de 18 años que la distancia puede matarte.
Todo comenzó diez meses atrás, en febrero de 1982. Argentina se preparaba para una guerra contra la potencia europea, Inglaterra. En las familias se temía, como nunca antes, que sus hijos sean parte de esta catástrofe humana. Rezaban todo el día para no escuchar esos 8 malditos números de su documento, que era el pase para morir. A casi todos no nos funcionó el rezo. Mi novio, Renzo, fue llamado para unirse al ejército. Recuerdo mi dolor en ese momento, y sus ojos de disgusto contra la vida misma. El día antes de irse para el corazón de la guerra, nos juramos escribirnos siempre. Creíamos en el amor a distancia y el juraba sin cansarse que iba a volver, que yo era su lugar seguro. No hay que jurar algo que no sabes si podes cumplir, nunca jamás.
Las primeras semanas, las cartas llegaban todas juntas y en desorden, pero sus palabras eran impecables, casi que sentía que seguía conmigo. Yo le escribía como podía, nunca fui tan buena escritora como Renzo lo era. Sus palabras me hacían sentir viva y llena de esperanza. Pero todo cambió en una carta que llegó el 30 de Marzo. Desde ese momento, mi vida se tiño de gris y el dolor me invadió profundamente. Esa maldita carta no era de Renzo. Lo sabía, no era su letra pero mi cabeza no fue capaz de seguir a mi corazón y le respondí diciendo que lo amaba y que lo esperaba con ansias. Poco a poco las cartas se fueron perfeccionando y ya me había olvidado de aquella carta. 
Cuando se termino la guerra, fui a la plaza a recibir a Renzo. Tantos meses sin verlo y mi corazón lo seguía amanado más que antes. Lentamente, los soldados con caras desoladas y con el corazón roto fueron apareciendo, pero Renzo no. No estaba por ningún lado. Esperé al rededor de dos horas hasta que vi a Manuel, el mejor amigo de Renzo. Corrí a su alcance esperando que Renzo estuviese allí. Manuel me recibió llorando, con una mano en el corazón. Ese fue el momento más triste de mi vida. Había perdido a la única persona a la que había amado y era peor que diez tiros. Se me dibujo en la mente su sonrisa de las mañanas y su bella risa.
Manuel me acompañó a casa y lo hice pasar. Fue al baño y yo me quedé en la cocina, preparando mate. No encontraba la bombilla y comencé a buscar en los cajones, hasta que encontré una carta que nunca había abierto. 
"Lamentamos informarle que Renzo Di Caro ha sido hallado asesinado en nuestras trincheras. El motivo del asesinato es desconocido. Lo sentimos, compañeros argentinos"
Leí la fecha y era del 29 de Marzo. Rápidamente corrí a buscar la carta extraña que había recibido.... y era de un día después. Mi miente comenzó a maquinar y tuve miedo. ¿Quién habría escrito esa carta? ¿Quién se había hecho pasar por Renzo? Y un escalofrío pasó por mi cuerpo. Manuel me miraba sonriendo desde el otro lado de la habitación. Una sonrisa fría y cómplice.
 "¿Te ha gustado la carta?"- preguntó.
Las palabras quedaron flotando en el ambiente, impregnándolo de extrañeza.

Unit1:Truth and Credibility

At school we have a subjet call thinking skills,in which we analyse and evaluate arguments.The arguments consists of a reason or many reasons that support a conclusion.To support this belief,we need evidence,without evidence,the argument is not reliable.
Later on,we start makeing judgement about the credibility of the evidence in each argument.To do this judgement,we need to focus on the source,which could be a tv programme or an article in a magazine, or many other things.Apart from this,we need to use a credibility crteria,which can be divided:

• Neutrality:Is a source which doesn't have a motive change evidence for its own benefit.

• Bias:It means having a preference for something, or supporting a point of view.Biased poin of view reduce the credibility of a source.

• Vested Interest:Is when a source takes a side and manipulates certain parts of the evidence for it own benefit.

• Expertise:Is when a evidence is highly credible because it is provided by an expert.

• Reputation:The higher the reputation of a source, the more credible it is.however,a reputation does not mean that the source provide accurate information.

• Observation and eyewitness accounts:Eye witnesses are very credible because they have seen the events.But many times the credibility is lost,because they tent to forget many details when they retell the story.

• Selectivity and Representativeness:Many campaigns group select evidence which support their own view.This selection of evidence reduce the credibility of the source.

• Corroboration:Is when some pieces of evidence support each other.Corroboration increase the credibility of evidence.

• Context:Is the setting in which an evidence is produced.It is very important to analysethe whole context because there might be factors that can affect the evidence provided.

To conclude,the evidence does not have to be true in order to be credible.

Credibility and truth:Credible means beliavable,not true.True mean correct.Evidence not always have to be true.So, credibility and truth are not equals.

¿Como se realiza la socialización?

En las clases de Sociología comenzamos a trabajar sobre el concepto de socialización. Socialización es el proceso a través del cual un individuo internaliza las normas para vivir en un grupo determinado. A raíz de esto, se puede hablar de la función de la familia, el proceso de la socialización en si y la socialización a partir de los jueguetes, rutinas, valores y más. En esta entrada, vamos a desarrollar cómo se realiza la socialización.




A continuación dejamos un vídeo que demuestra como los valores son inculcados en la familia, generalmente de manera involuntaria.
